CAST in Sunday Inquirer

Casting A Comic Book From High School Memories

Thanks to Budjette Tan for the heads up: Cast is a serial comic book created by Jamie Bautista and Elbert Or for Nautilus Comics. I once even drew for them, providing art for a short story about one of their characters Monserrat Lee (aka Mons), written by Elbert. The art above is my take on the character :) You can see that along with the rest of the story in Cast #3.

CAST issues 0-5 are available at leading bookstores, magazine stands and comic shops.

(Belated) Happy Father's Day!

I hope dad knows how much we love him :) I remember that day long ago when Papa was driving home from Manila to San Pablo with me in the half-sleeping in the backseat. The radio's on and it played what was starting to be popular, the song "Butterfly Kisses" by Bob Carlisle.

"There's two things I know for sure:
She was sent here from heaven and she's
daddy's little girl.
As I drop to my knees by her bed at night
She talks to Jesus and I close my eyes and
I thank god for all the joy in my life
Oh, but most of all
For butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer;
sticking little white flowers all up in her
hair; "Walk beside the pony, Daddy, it's my first ride."
"I know the cake looks funny, Daddy, but I sure tried."
In all that I've done wrong I know I must
have done something right to deserve a hug
every morning and butterfly kisses at night."

It was only the second time I heard the song then but I already liked it, gushing about it with my fellow song enthusiast (and awesome singer)Claudia Dooma, who was also my classmate in UST-Architecture. I went on in my half-asleep state enjoying the song...

"Sweet 16 today
She's looking like her mama a little more everyday
One part woman, the other part girl.
To perfume and make-up from ribbons and curls
Trying her wings out in a great big world.
But I remember
Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer; sticking
little white flowers all up in her hair.
"You know how much I love you, Daddy, But if you
don't mind I'm only gonna kiss you on the cheek this time."
With all that I've done wrong I must have done
something right to deserve her love every morning
and butterfly kisses at night."

Yep, it may be a bit mushy but I actually think it's a nice song...

"All the precious time
Like the wind, the years go by.
Precious butterfly.
Spread your wings and fly."

I mean, the music arrangements great, and I appreciate good voice blending (which is why I practice providing second voice every chance I get, it challenges me). It goes on to the rest of the song, which I already know since I heard it before...

"She'll change her name today...
~KZZZT!~
AAAAAAND Johnny Abarrientos gets the ball!!! the crowd goes wild!"

...Or not. That's when I looked up in time to see that Papa has changed the stations. I guess he didn't like that particular line of the song :)

It always made me smile because I really thought it was funny how he quickly switched radio stations that long-ago night. As for me, I only hope that I can make him happy by doing what I love to do as I develop my career in my own road. I pray that he finds happiness in every moment. That he knows we love him and always think of him as he works in China.

Batmobile Exhibit

Traze-chan

Tracy is a friend I met back in college. We used to be roommates and we hit it ioff immediately when we found out we both love drawing, anime, and comics. I'm always proud of her because besides the fact that she used to be part of the Women's Basketball Varsity, she has always been such a bright student. As a matter of fact, she's studying Law now, where she met her bf Brian, who's her classmate. I also remember supporting her in UST beauty pageants and watched her win. We were both ecstatic when we finally met again since I graduated. Her bf and his family told me I look and act so much like her that they find it hard to believe we're not related. They got more surprised when I added that we're both this hyper geeky genki girls even before we met :D It was wonderful meeting Brian's family. And I promised to let them know if I get wind of another Batman exhibit, for they really wanted to check it out themselves after I showed them the pictures I took in Gateway Mall (thanks to Az for the heads up!).

Angeltears7 aka Giselle

I met Giselle a few months and she's the sweetest, nicest and cutest girl I've ever met! (hmm, I'm sounding like a Friendster testimonial... that reminds me! I'll just copy-paste this wehehe!) We found out that we share a love/obsession/addiction to chocolates and would meet for chocolates eversince(any other chocoloving girls care to join? ;). here's our pic when I first introduced her to Arashi Kishu. It was that night that she got the inspiration for the blog posts about make up basics for geek girls ;D Giselle also showed me a pic of her mom and I found it cool how it looks so much like my grad pic! I'll upload my grad pic when I find a good scan ;)

Dario Carrasco Jr.

Yay for Pinoy comic book artists who are making it in the global market! :D
Darrio Carrasco Jr. created the comic Mask of the Gargoyle which will be in Digital Webbing Presents #24.
And it is being featured now in http://comicon.com! read the whole article here!

Dean's Questions

Here are The Official Interview Game Rules:

1. If you want to participate, leave a comment below saying “interview me.”
2. I will respond by asking you five questions - each person’s will be different.
3. You will update your journal/blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview others in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

from Dean

Hey, hey, Jac:

1. Choose one: Every year for the rest of your life, you will gain an inch in height; or every year from the rest of the your life, you shrink by an inch. Explain.

Hmmmm, I'd rather shrink. Tempting as it may be to grow to about six feet of model height, scientific studies have found a connection between taller heights and shorter lifespans ;) And besides the thought of being eight feet tall by the time I'm fiftysix, I've seen how Mousse of Ran Ma shrank; I don't think it's so bad, wehehehe!

2. Instead of giving birth, you will lay several big spotted eggs. How do you explain this to the father of your child/ren?

"NOW you know why I'm againt this experimental artificial insemination shit."

3. Something is terribly wrong with the light spectrum and the sky is no longer blue. What color is now on a clear day? What happens at sunset?

I'd love to see the day sky pink, and let there be green sunsets!

4. Everyone is sexy to some degree, though some ooze it and some need a little help. What’s your stand on using sex appeal to ahead in life?

As long as one does not rely on sex appeal ALONE, I think it's alright :)

5. Think back on the happiest moment of your life. Now consider, can there possibly be any future event that can surpass that moment? What would it be?

To share my happiest moment with all the people I love :)
