POGS

I went and checked out the POGS= Philippine Online Gaming Summit, probably the first of its kind. It was held last may 18 at the NBC tent in The Fort. It's acually my first time to go there so I'm happy my boss took me along. We find it amusing how rumors spread about us wanting to plug/announce UGG in POGS, when we never contacted each other in the first place.

Anyway, such things should not be given much thought anyway. We're all friends here in the community, because the success of one is the success of the community. There should never be any attitude of rivalry or competition :)

There I found gamers happily playing away in PC terminals lined up within the grounds. The models are the biggest eye-candy there. I heard the Pristontale Archer is also there(just check out the costume!) but (I also heard) the model became shy with all the attention she was getting. We also got free MPH magazines (nope, not FHM). And there was a live band playing.





We didn't stay too long. We soon went out and walked around The Fort. We eventually found kiddie rides and kel insisted they rid on them. I took pics of course :D

Tuesday is Cancelled

After tossing and turning in my sleep, I woke up thi morning from a weird dream where I struggled to get everyone to wear white, then black. But again and again after I finally managed everyone to wear white and start making him or her change to black, everything falls back to chaos.

I woke up with a high fever and I knew: I was sick.

Strangely, whenever I get sick, like REALLY sick, I get dreams where I try to organize stuff, like a weird puzzle or something. Even when I try to wake up away from the exhausting dreams as soon as I fall back to sleep it is only the continuation of my unfinished puzzles. And only after I solved the puzzle or successfully arranged everything into order does the fever break.

Unfortunately, I was terribly unsuccessful today. Which means it would take more than my natural system to make it break. So after a sponge bath I was finally convinced to go out and get something to eat, as well as some paracetamols. I felt better enough to make it back to the office without collapsing, since my head feels like it weighs a ton. Then I was out from 10am to 2pm, when they woke me up and started getting really worried about me.

Ranulf brought me to this restaurant where I ordered a bottomless kalamansi juice and soup and a clubhouse sandwich. Diane and Sacha told me I could still sign up to wushu with them if I want to. I said I’ll see about it after my gym membership runs out ? As I struggled to eat my soup I was shivering and had goosebumps all over my arms.

I was barely halfway through the soup when I threw up. I think some even splattered on poor Ranulf’s shoe. Needless to say I was mortified. Yep, this is definitely NOT my most glamorous feel-like-a-model day.

I took another paracetamol and Ranulf gave me his Bromhexine, because I was also coughing up a storm by then. I had the clubhouse sandwich packed up. As we walked on the way home I threw up again. After I fell onto my bed Ranulf told Mark to look for a doctor in Libis. I insisted I’m going to be fine, even when he was already out the door. Jojo gave me a mug of water when I realized I was thirsty.

He came back and said he found a clinic in the Cybermall, where he brought me. They were fast and efficient. The doctor’s clinic was thankfully warm. After looking at the thermometer, the lady doctor announced that my temperature was 38.7 degrees, and so had to make me take antibiotics. She also said that while my throat doesn’t look that bad, my heart rate is so fast it’s like I’ve been running when I was just sitting still.

We went and bought the meds and my own thermometer, because she wants me to check my temperature twice a day before taking my medications. And if things don’t improve by the third day she said I should go back to her, although she hopes it never comes to that point. I took my first dose of Amoxicillin.

Well, I hope I’m well by tomorrow ;D Kenny Rogers has this one day promo tomorrow where we can buy 1 chicken solo meal and get another for free! Wehehehe! I’m planning on Solo B because I love their side dishes! Solo A comes with only one side dish while Solo B comes with 2 :)

Right now I have the thermometer sticking out of my mouth after feasting on NONG SHIM Spicy Chicken Noodle Soup. (And no, I didn’t burn any plates in the microwave this time.) Then, I hope I get my appetite back for them club sandwiches, with a biiiiig bottle of mango juice.

(Takes out thermometer)… Yay! My fever’s down 10 degrees :D

John Eff Kennedy

This is an artwork commissioned by the rap artist himself :) he now has this posted in his blog.

I'm coloring this as soon as he gets this approved, then i'll make a chibi-version. He's the guy with whom we tried out how Paypal and Xoom works :) which it did wonderfully.

He's a songwriter who composes and performs his own rap songs about politics and issues. The mp3's are all downloadable from his blog where you can also take a peek at a life of a struggling artist trying to make it in the field of his passion while getting by with the realities of day jobs, bills and relationships.

In one of our chats I commented on how we dream of making money by doing what we want to do most, but until then we have to finance those dreams by working in jobs that are not exactly in line with our dream careers, but pays the bills.

On my part, I just decide to enjoy life every step of the way, the good right along with the bad, and on my own terms. I don't give bullshit, so I refuse to
take any. I guess it's why I'm glad there are people like John Eff who are not afraid to speak out about what's wrong around us instead of just accepting it as the norm, lowered yet another notch.

We all know how we hate the system and its corruption in our own country. But it's interesting to note how different our cultures are in a way that we look down on ourselves so much while western cultures think highly of themselves, when in the end we're all basically the same. We both have problems as well as the good stuff to be proud of.

I mean, sure, go ahead and hate the system, let's rant about it all we want. But if we want things to be better we also have to do something to be part of the solution. What CAN we do? Living our lives as a good citizen could be a start.

I believe in having a good set of values and principles to live by. Yes, life's shit. But it doesn't mean we have to throw shit back to the world. The difference lies in deciding whether to do nothing about it or fight against it :)

Xoom Update

I finally got my online banking straightened out so I confirmed that my payment came in March 10! That means it came immediately! Cool! :D

Whee!

I first saw artworks like these in cd covers of cool club music compilations in Music One. I was soo tempted to buy the cd's if only to have the awesome artwork. That was about a year ago. I tried googling Hedkandi and stuff but I still didn't find out what his name was. I was so glad when a friend of mine told me about Jason Brooks. So yay! I finally found him! :D



Hawaiian Tropic Sunblock Lip Balm SPF 45, Vanilla Mint Flavor

Yes! And I also finally found THE Lip Balm! I've been searching all this time for a lip balm that actually works for me. So far I tried lip balms that tasted weird, smelled weird, or worse, MADE my lips chap.

So far, this one really made my lips smooth, soft and healed from chapping and stuff. And it smells like vanilla (my favorite scent!) AND it tastes nice too. The mint is an unexpected bonus. It makes my lips feel tingly cool! I found this one by accident while panic shopping for a bikini for that contest.

The runner-up is Jellies Lip Gloss sold in Sara Lee (Avon's competitor in direct selling). It tastes great and leaves a gorgeous glossy tint on your lips, but it smells too sweet or too waxy.

Graduation

I vaguely remember my first graduation back when I was six years old. We're supposed to come up onstage, say our names, and state what we want to be when we grow up. So my fam asked what i want to be when i grow up.

"Drawer."

"Huh?" my family was naturally puzzled.

"I want to draw."

"OOOOOOH! You mean an artist!"

(whispers:) "Don't tell her she wants to be an artist! She might end up like those painters who got famous AFTER dying poor!"

"...Say 'Designer' instead!"

And I did :)

I forgot my equitable online bank password. Again.

I was asked last time to change it but didn't get to write it down anywhere. So now I have to go to my branch in San Pablo City to fix it because the account and I can't try to log on anymore because I entered the wrong password too many times. Sigh, so I'll check if the Xoom thing worked the old way. Walk to an ATM :)

That's how I count my reps at the end of each set. Since I got into the contest the trainers insist I do 15 reps of 3 sets of everything in my 3-day program. My arms still hurt. The next day it's going to be my back and biceps that will start hurting right along with my chest and triceps. I notice though that I feel like I have excess energy that makes me want to go running instead of walking when I go about my pedestrian ways on the street and in the malls. I just hope no one mistakes me for a snatcher hahaha!

XOOM

I recently got myself a Xoom account because I've heard that it's one way Pinoys can get to use Paypal technology. Paypal is an online service that lets you send money to anyone with an email address, costing much less than sending money around the globe by Western Union. A client of mine wants to try paying me from New York by his Paypal account.

Minutes later (I use dial-up internet connection) I received an email confirming that he has sent me money. I clicked the link provided in the email to claim it and it brought up a window asking for my personal details to sign up my own Paypal account. But when I got to the part where I choose my country, Philippines is not on the list. the only country they have beginning with P is Portugal. To sum it up, I CAN'T get an Paypal account.

I told him so and he soon cancelled the money transaction. That's when i went to xoom.com and clicked on the Request Money link. I didn't need to sign up or be signed in to request for money from anyone with an email address. Later he told me he got the email and it said that he needs the Account Holder's Phone Number, Account Holder's Address, and Equitable PCI Bank Account Number.

The main reason I signed up in Xoom is because I have an Equitable PCI bank account. I gave him the details he needed and soon enough he got a reply saying the transaction can take up to three banking days. So as soon as I know how it turns out, I'll let you guys know, in case you're interested in being able to transact money online :)

Ack!

Sowy! I should have updated YESTERDAY!

But obviously, I didn't. Why? Because yesterday was the last daw of my work in CPI. I resigned because I need to go full-time in my other job in Eastwood. I'm part of an all-Pinoy team of indie game designers with Ranulf. We're designing a game that should come out May 2005.

I'm in a net cafe right now to make up for my online absence. Later I'll meet up with Slycers Jojo and Mark to help me move my stuff out of the dorm and into Eastwood.

I felt kinda sad having to leave CPI, but I hope I can still come back someday, if at least to freelance. I love the people there. They're some of the coolest co-workers I've met :) I'm jus glad we're all seeing each other again in Tina's wedding.

Working VS Begging

I was eating breakfast one day when a gir approached and gave me a small laminated card, then moved on to other tables to do the same. I read the card and it said something like this:

"I am a working student and now I need help to pay my tuition fees..."

Oh man! Not another beggar!!! I've had these letters before, received much the same way, asking for money for some charities. I was about to return the card to the girl when my eyes glanced over the rest of what it said:

"I'm selling dried mangoes for P50. If you would from me it would be a great help. Because I believe WORKING IS BETTER THAN BEGGING."

When the girl came back I bought the dried mangoes and had it as post-breakfast dessert :) I hate beggars. I love people like her, who refuse to beg. Say it with me:

Coke VS Dysmenorrhea

Through the years since the arrival of the curse of my female puberty, we learned that Coke helps us deal with dysmenorrhea. We're even told that beer works even better. Could anyone out there confirm or deny this? :) Until then I have an excuse to drink Coke and beer every month ;D

Circle of Blood

I got Kabuki: Circle of Blood as a late Chrismas gift! Yay! Thanks guys! Love ya! :D

This shows one David Mack's early works. His style is already distinctive with his unique panelling and how he uses the images itself as part of his poetry. The art is quite raw in its black and white format compared to Kabuki: Images where he basically told the same story inside a bigger story, but all in gloriously vibrant watercolors. Still, the emotions of his work is still... heart-wrenching. Call me a fangirl('cause I am), but his work really grabs my heart right out and takes my soul on a ride of its life(or existence, if you're going to be that strict regarding a soul's life, but I digress...). I can't wait to collect the rest of Kabuki!

That was me this morning. And no, nobody pushed me. The photographers just wanted to make me pose in the water during the photoshoot for the Bikini Bodies 2005. I was one of the candidates. Even to this moment I still can't believe I got in.

I mean, you grow up being the ugliest little girl in a family with gorgeous parents and siblings... and now THIS?!

I was just walking in a treadmill in Slimmer's World (okay, okay, I was kinda suckered into signing up because of their half-price promo) when a female trainer came up to me and told me to go to Dusit Hotel for the first screening because they need a representative. "Sali ka na, katuwaan lang naman yun e. It's just for fun!"

So gullible me thought 'What the heck,' and went. Cathy, who signed up in Slimmer's World for the same reason, lent me her swimsuit and got me an entry form.

A few days later I was told that I'm in. Now they're telling me to go to this photoshoot. And that for the next few weeks we'll be rehearsing for a production number. They took my measurements so they could make costumes.

Futek, KATUWAAN LANG ITO?!?

Hay. But of course, I'm going through with this. As far as I can go. However silly I sometimes feel because I never really viewed myself as anything visually pleasing. Mostly because I'm always up for a new experience, and it's gonna be one heckuva story to tell Mikko's kids someday.

I scoured the malls yesterday until I chose a printed red and pink string bikini, and got some red strapped wedge sandals to match with it. The next morning I woke up real early to go to the gym for my Day 3 of the week(they put me in a 3-day program to prepare for the contest) where this trainer made me 3 sets of everything, however much I begged that I can't do it because the weights are too heavy, or my limbs are too weak. Because he won't quit pestering me until I finish all the 3 sets, I did it. After thatb I rushed through th showers and hurried to find a salon to get makeup done.

No salons are open until 10am. Photoshoot starts 10am. FUUUUUTEK!

I ran on to Shangri-La. I was on my way to the hotel when my eyes glanced ove rthe mall's directory. I saw Watercolors. I found it and had makeup done there. One hour later I look less like a troglodyte and poorer by P650. Zeny, the nice makeup artist directed me to a shortcut to the Hotel by the elevator. I'm one hour late.

I was thankful to find that they took pics individually. So it's okay to be late. Yay! After that I went on to work.

Hello old friend...

Been awhile.

Sorry I can't blog as often as I'd like. I've been busy working as a graphic artist for this full time job. I enjoyed my experience and learning in the short while I'm here. But things worked out in a way that I have to move on. As I learned new things as a graphic artist, I also learned new things as an employee. Some are good, some are sad lessons, but we learn anyway.

Lately I've been noticing flamers and tagboard spammers here in my blog. I took it as a sign that I need to update my blog a bit more often. I think they pollute blogs that have weak traffic because their posts would last. Unlike if the blog is alive and kicking. whatever they post, it would only be pushed down by newer posts of all the other people. So they're like flies that infest old food. langaw.

Wish me luck!

I plan to start blogging here once or twice a week. I'll try Tuesdays and Fridays. It was impossible before because the computer I mainly use doesn't have any net connection. So I could only get online by renting another computer and such. Hopefully I could get online more often now.

Let me just say this is a komikero must-see movie! hahahaha! I enjoyed this movie more than I expected. I thank the cool guys of MYX on-air Osang, Jackie and Art. I just experienced my very first premiere :D

Feb 16 Shangri La Hotel

Hehehe wala lang ;) Ask Az

So how did it go?

Pretty well, actually :) I had a blast!

I was freaking nervous before we started, but when it was all over, I'm pretty glad it looked good on the video. I'll post them here for viewing here as soon as I get the pics and videos :)

I got off work at CPI past 6pm, because I was waiting for the art director to come back so I could ask for his leave. But it's been almost an hour since he stepped out so I had no choice but to rush to Shangri La hotel without waiting for his leave to let me go. I texted him that I could come back after if he still wants me to work some more(the next day though he said he never got any text messages from me. Strange).

At the MRT the stupid train broke down right after it stops in the station!!! After waiting for 20 minutes I finally decided to take the cab by myself for the first time. I noted the cab's name and plate number and texted it to Rej. I even asked the driver for his name, who gamely handed over his driver ID. Of course I texted that too.

I chatted the driver up until I realized that I have no money with me, and asked him to help me find an ATM. We found one in Starmall, where I paid him with tip. And ran to Shangri-La hotel from there in my corporate outfit. I gotta tell you that I wore sneakers since the day after because my leather ankle boots positively killed my feet that night! I totally owe myself some foot pampering in Cat's Posh Nails ;)

I found the pool side venue when the event is already in the speech part! I'm told that the performers from Enchanted Kingdom has already finished their number. Rej showed me to the dressing room where I changed to my Jue costume. I then ran out to the side of the stage where the other cosplayers are waiting.

Dante wonderfully kept bringing all this amazing food and drinks to us while we waited. Man, I wish I could eat for free in hotels like Shangri La more often. My mouth was definitely having a party that night. We didn't eat much before the sword fight save for the fruit shakes and yummy chocolate fruit tarts, but my heart felt like it grew butterfly wings out of sheer happiness. I just love dessert food!

Then suddenly Rej, Oneal and Luna said it's our turn because the music of Animatrix is already playing. Even when we thought it was kind off-cue (because we thought the Star Wars guys should go before us), we ran onto the stage.

While I wore the Jue costume, Rej wore a white spagetti strap top and short shorts, while Luna wore her same sleek black outfit from the time she staged a sword fight with Rej. We lined up in front of the audience near the back of the stage while Oneal, in black, did a sword demo between us and the audience. We were trying to stop from giggling because we caught some guys watching us instead of him hahaha!

Oneal then handed a sword(ok, ok, it was actually a golf club without the club... erm, try to stay with me here ;) to Luna and they did their sword choreography. I enjoyed watching them because it looked pretty good. I think somebody made a mistake when Luna suddenly was smiled while they were fighting, but since it's supposed to be a Matrix training program it's ok :)

Then they haded the swords/golf shafts/whatever to me and Rej. We went into position and started... along the way I forgot what to do next, so I was glad Rej was talking me through hahaha! I let myself fall for real (my bruises are still haling) when Rej was doing her 'fighting dirty' part. Oneal then stepped in and fought with her to th cute endng :) I'm glad everyone there thought my group's performance looked good.

After which I stuffed myself silly with Penne pasta and some cheese filled pasta, ravioli? And took more desserts that I could find, since there was only little food left because the Anime Explosion guests have finished eating before out performance. We ate and chatted while we w5tched the fireworks, which was a bit late or off-cue, but of course it still looks nice when it did start :) Then the band from Enchanted Kingdom played some songs onstage while the guests chatted, mingled or danced.

We went off and got dressed. I finally got to wear that backless sparkly turquoise top (I was supposed to wear as abay) and everyone liked it. I drank red wine as I met more people in the animation industry with Cathy. I'd love to learn animation, definitely. And I'm glad I'm learning the After Effects program in CPI. I've made animations to be aired in Lifestyle Network and Myx so far. Now if only I could learn frame by frame animation. Like in Flash :)
