Alicia Keys

She's so gorgeous and talented I just LOVE her! I like this video in particular because of the awesome Beethoven piece she played in the middle

Now I wish I took my piano lessons more seriously. How should I know Beethoven could be so darned cool?! Besides, I was eleven back then XD

Typhoon Milenyo

A fellow San Pablo blogger made an amazing photo documentary of the typhoon that just ravaged our area. The announcement was made the day before, calling all schools to call off classes a day in advance due to 'typhoon signal number 2'.

I was impressed that they predicted it a day ahead, compared to my schooldays when they called off classes AFTER we're stranded within the buildings of UST which has already transformed itself into an Atlantis. Again.

I'm hearing rumors that another one is on its way, and that it's even stronger than this one(!). I hope Level Up! Live will be moved because I won't be able to make it this Sunday :( The storm has messed up my costume making schedule T_T

Level Up! Live 2006

We're taking part in the Level Up! Live 2006 happening this weekend. This is where online gamers get real as players from all over the country gather for the biggest gaming EB of the year :D Yay for gamers!

Robert is going as an Accretia

while Jewel will be Hecate

so I'll be going as the Cora(spiritualist level 45) who summons her ;)

Estanislao Merchandise

I decided on the costume after Robert agreed to help me with the armor. He told me to get some materials here. If you would look at one of his websites you'll find out a few helpful facts as a cosplayer. As for Estanislao this is where I could buy rubber sheets. They're light yet sturdy enough not to be droopy, if you choose the right thickness for the job :)

I got two sheets of white 4mm for the Cora's armor, as well as Greco888, which he swears is tons better than Mighty Bond. The people there are very accommodating, just like he said, and helped me choose the right stuff by being efficently informative. I also enjoyed talking to them, switching languages between Filipino, English and Fookien. And the whole time they have this big fat cat they call Britney who prowls the countertop, stepping(pussyfooting?) all over money and receipts as the people go about their business XD

Anyway, here's how I (should have) found the place:

1) go to Aurora Boulevard
2) ride a "Marikina Bayan" jeep= P10
3) get off at bridge (Sumulong Highway cor JP Rizal)
4) ride a "Calumpang" jeep= P7.50
5) watch out for "Chinatrust Bank"

6) soon enough you'll see "E. Estanislao" on the right side!

David Mack and chocolate cookies

Here's the trailer for David Mack's DVD soon to be available here!

I fell in love with David Mack's work when I first laid eyes on Kabuki: Reflections I borrowed from a classmate back in college. I've been collecting Kabuki TPB's eversince. It's amazing seeing him push all kinds of boundaries for a graphic novel, the dance of words and images a perfect mix of pure art and sheer poetry.

And belated happy birthday to my niece who turned 1 year old last September 20 :)

...now I have a craving for Mallows!

Yay for Siglo: Passion

Yay! Siglo: Passion won Manila Critics Circle's National Book Award, Best Comic Book of the Year :D If you don't have a copy already get one now, available at Comic Quest and Fully Booked branches for P850. I have a pinup art there :)

National Book Awards citation for SIGLO: PASSION

The National Book Award goes to Siglo: Passion, edited by Dean Francis Alfar and Vincent Simbulan, published by Kestrel IMC, Mango Books, and Quest Ventures.

Comic books have experienced amazing and welcome growth through recent years, seeking both polish and distinct identity from the manifold influences they bear on their staples and stitching.

Siglo: Passion is proof of just how far comic books in the Philippines have evolved. Full-color, edgy, and moody, Siglo: Passion also boasts of top Filipino creative talent, not just great comic book talent:

Nikki Go-Alfar, Lan Medina, Reno Maniquis, Edgar Tadeo, Hiyas De Guzman, Vicente Groyon, Honoel Ibardolaza, Paolo Manalo, Andrew Drilon, Carlo Vergara, Jason Banico, Marco Dimaano, Quark Henares, Antonio Abad, Ma-an Asuncion, Gerry Alanguilan, Jaime Bautista, Michelle Soneja, Cyan Abad-Jugo, Luis Katigbak, Jonas Diego, Joel Chua, Ariel Atienza, Jeremy Arambulo, Angelo Suarez, Rafael Kayanan, Leinil Francis Yu, Jose Illenberger, Jac Ting Lim, Camille Portugal, Oliver Pulumbarit, Wilson Tortosa and Ma. Camille Francisco.

That it defies easy classification is part of its significance, as is the fact that Siglo is closer to a literary anthology than it is to the funny books. That it emerges so full-formed in the category that features such exemplary finalists shows that Comic
Books have indeed come of age. It shows that valor lies in trying to do what has not yet been done before and Siglo: Passion does it with pride, for which we honor it today with the National Book Award for Comic Books.
